... dann kann er was erzählen.

... then he has something to tell.

Wir waren für eine Woche im Urlaub und haben u.a. auch meine alte Heimatstadt Torgau besucht. 

Das ist auch jedes mal mit ein wenig Wehmut verbunden, denn vieles ist nicht mehr da. 

Aber natürlich freue ich mich auch über die Veränderungen und den Fortschritt.

We were on holiday for a week and visited my old hometown of Torgau, among other places. 

This is always accompanied by a little sadness, because a lot of things are no longer there. 

But of course I am also happy about the changes and the progress.

Torgau ist eine Stadt mit sehr viel Geschichte.

Im Schloss residierten die sächsischen Kurfürsten.

Torgau is a city with a lot of history.

Das Schloss hat 3 Besonderheiten!

The castle has 3 special features!

Kommt man durch das Burgtor, fällt als erste Besonderheit sofort die große Wendeltreppe ins Auge.

When you come through the castle gate, the first special feature that immediately catches your eye 

is the large spiral staircase.

Das besondere an dieser Wendeltreppe ist, das sie komplett aus Sandstein gebaut ist 

und in der Mitte keine tragende Säule hat. Es ist eine sogenannte freitragende Treppe.

The special thing about this spiral staircase is that it is built entirely of sandstone 

and has no supporting column in the middle. It is a so-called cantilever staircase.

Die zweite Besonderheit ist sehr gut versteckt und befindet sich hinter dieser Tür.

The second special feature is very well hidden and is located behind this door.

Durch diese Tür geht man in eine Kirche und zwar die erste evangelische Kirche Deutschlands, 

geweiht von keinem Geringeren als Martin Luther.

Through this door you enter a church, the first Protestant church in Germany, 

consecrated by none other than Martin Luther.

Die dritte Besonderheit ist ein Touristenmagnet - der Bärengraben.

Ja, in diesem Bärengraben sind richtige Bären.

The third special feature is a tourist magnet - the bear pit.

Yes, there are real bears in this bear pit.

Eigentlich gibt es sogar noch eine vierte Besonderheit bzw. es gab diese Besonderheit.

Actually, there is even a fourth special feature, or rather there was this special feature.

Dieses Gebäude steht direkt neben dem Schloss und in diesem war früher meine Grundschule 

(heute ist es eine Jugendherberge und ein Gästehaus).

This building is right next to the castle and used to be my primary school 

(today it is a youth hostel and guest house).

Das Geländer, welches Ihr im Hintergrund seht, ist direkt am Bärengraben.

In der oberen Fensterreihe (die großen Fenster) befand sich mein Klassenraum.

The railing to the right of the building is the railing of the schoolyard.

Nach dem Besuch des Schlosses (es gibt auch eine sehr interessante Ausstellung zu den Kurfürsten) erfreut ein Spaziergang durch den Rosengarten.

After visiting the castle (there is also a very interesting exhibition about the electors), 

a walk through the rose garden is a pleasure.

In unmittelbarer Nähe des Schlosses befindet sich eine weitere Kirche - Die Stadtkirche.

In the immediate vicinity of the castle there is another church - the town church.

Auch sie lohnt einen Besuch, den sie wurde für Katharina von Bora, der Ehefrau Martin Luthers, 

zur letzten Ruhestätte.

It is also worth a visit because it was the final resting place of Katharina von Bora, 

Martin Luther's wife.

Bummelt man durch die Schlossstraße ...

If you stroll through Castle Street ...

... kommt man auch zur Katharinenstraße.

Hier befindet sich das Wohnhaus der Katharina von Bora.

Das Erdgeschoss ist heute ein kleines Museum.

... you also come to Katharinen Street.

This is where Katharina von Bora's house is located.

The ground floor is now a small museum.

Noch ein kleines Stück weiter führt ein Weg direkt zum Gymnasium, welches ich auch besucht habe.

A little further on, a path leads directly to the high school, which I also attended.

In diesem imposanten Gebäude befand sich früher unsere Turnhalle 

und im Dachgeschoß die Aula der Schule.

Heute ist es Konzert- und Veranstaltungsgebäude.

This impressive building used to house our gymnasium 

and the school auditorium on the top floor.

Today it is a concert and event building.

Ein weiterer kurzer Weg führt zum Marktplatz.

Direkt am Marktplatz gelegen ist Deutschlands ältestes Spielwarengeschäft.

Another short path leads to the market square. 

Germany's oldest toy shop is located directly on the market square.

In diesem Spielwarengeschäft habe ich in den Sommerferien immer gearbeitet.

I always worked in this toy store during the summer holidays.

Es geht noch einmal zurück an die Elbe.

Denn auch hier wurde Geschichte geschrieben.

Let’s go back to the Elbe once again.

Because history was made here too.

Das "Denkmal der Begegnung" erinnert an den 25. April 1945

und an das Aufeinandertreffen US-amerikanischer und sowjetischer Soldaten.

In den drei Tagen in Torgau wohnten wir auf dem Campingplatz.

During the three days in Torgau we stayed at the campsite.

Vor ein paar Jahren wurde der Campingplatz von einem neuen Besitzer übernommen.

Dieser gestaltete den Campingplatz neu.

Wir sind ganz begeistert von diesem Campingplatz.

A few years ago the campsite was taken over by a new owner.

The owner redesigned the campsite.

We are very enthusiastic about this campsite.

Ein toller Service. Kräuter zur Selbstbedienung.

Der Campingplatz ist direkt am See "Der große Teich" gelegen.

Neben dem Campingplatz ist gleich das Strandbad und es gibt Wander- und Radwege um den See.

The campsite is located directly on the lake "The Big Pond".

Next to the campsite is the lido and there are hiking and cycling trails around the lake.

Und Ihr habt es bestimmt schon geahnt.

Ja, in diesem See war ich immer baden!!

Yes, I always went swimming in this lake!!
